Definition
- For the purpose of zoological nomenclature a letter or group of letters at the end of a nomen which may carry a standard, identified meaning or usage, such as indicating plural nominative (e.g. -ae or -i), or small size (e.g. -ella or -ita), or similarity (e.g. -oides or -ops). In the family-series, the suffix is the letter or group of letters (e.g., -ae, -i, -a, -ea, -ia) particpating in indicating the rank of the taxon, which follows the connector.
