sulfate ion

Définition

  • A sulfate is a salt of sulfuric acid H2SO4. The sulfate ion is the anion SO4 2-. Sulfates are air pollutants, particularly in smog. In volcanology, sulfate gas is the aerosol of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) formed by contact between water and the sulfate ion (SO4) in the atmosphere. It is an important indicator of the impact of volcanism on climate, as it influences albedo and therefore climate. More than half of sulfate aerosols occur in clouds, and they have the radiative impact considered the most important for terrestrial climate systems. Understanding these phenomena is important for understanding radiative forcing and the risks posed by climate change. (Adapted and translated from: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfate)
