salt
Definition
- Salt, or sodium chloride (NaCl), is a mineral of marine origin. Present in the water when the oceans covered the Earth, it was deposited in layers of sediment as the sea receded. It is now found in abundance in nature, either as rock salt or diluted in seawater.
