soil profile

Definition

  • In soil science, the soil profile is the characteristic sequence of horizons in a given soil. Some pedologists use the term solum to designate all of these soil horizons, including a small thickness of bedrock. The expression "soil profile" is also used in agronomy to refer to the cultural profile, which only concerns cultivated soils.
