Definition
- Un paléochenal, appelé également paléovallée ou paléorivière, est un terme géologique décrivant les vestiges d'un ancien chenal fluviatile devenu inactif et ayant été empli ou recouvert par des sédiments plus récents. Les sédiments dans lesquels l'ancien chenal est entaillé ou enfoui peuvent être non consolidés, semi-consolidés, consolidés ou lithifiés.
