  • A metamemory phenomenon in which people—when they recall having succeeded at or felt comfortable with a demanding task (i.e., an experience with high remembered utility)—prefer that type of experience over shorter tasks do not feature any moderate learning or testing opportunities. (adapted from Finn & Miele, 2021, p. 622).
