- Ossian (ou Oisín, signifiant "petit faon" en irlandais), barde écossais du IIIe siècle, fils de Fingal, serait l'auteur d'une série de poèmes dits "gaéliques" traduits et publiés en anglais entre 1760 et 1763 par le poète James Macpherson, qui eurent un énorme retentissement dans toute l'Europe.
