Définition

  • Manic-depressive illness, also known as bipolar disorder, is a mental illness primarily characterized by shifts in a person's mood and accompanied by impaired social and somatic functioning. These impairments differ from the daily variations in mood experienced as “normal”; manic-depressive illness differs also from depression, although many patients with manic-depressive illness first present with depression.
