Laurent Degos

- A FRENCH CANCER specialist and a professor of clinical hematology at the University of Paris, Laurent Degos was the joint winner, with Wang Zhen-Yi, of the Charles F. Kettering Prize of the General Motors Cancer Foundation in 1994 for “elucidating the molecular defect, and developing cytodifferentiation therapy, of acute human promyelocytic leukemia.” Laurent Degos was born on July 9, 1945, in Paris, the son of Robert Degos and Monique (née Lortat-Jacob). He completed his internship at the Hospital of Paris in 1967, and then attended the University of Paris, gaining his medical degree in 1972 and his doctorate in 1973.
