- The Unification Church (Tongil Kyohoe in Korean) is one of many new religious movements emerging in post–World War II Korea. It developed around the teaching of Sun Myung Moon, born in 1920 in Sangsa-ri in North Korea, then under Japanese rule. [Source: Encyclopedia of Religion in America; Unification Church]
