- The explanation given for disease in biomedicine is that it is the product of external biological factors such as germs or viruses, that is, ‘biological hazards’. The contrast is with the role ascribed to psychosocial and social epidemiological factors identified by the social sciences in explaining the production and distribution of disease (health determinants; social support; stress)..
