- The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) is an international committee comprised of scientific experts who evaluate food additive safety as well as safety levels of contaminants, naturally occurring toxicants, and veterinary drug residues in foods. It formulates standards to determine acceptable food contamination levels and serves as a resource for governments wishing to formulate national food safety programs.
