- Joseph Harold Greenberg (1915–2001) was one of the most influential linguists of the second half of the 20th century. He made major contributions to the study of all aspects of language, including grammatical structure, historical linguistics, phonology, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and anthropological linguistics.
