- CLIMATE SENSITIVITY IS generally defined as the global mean surface temperature change that is followed by the doubling of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. Put simply, climate sensitivity is the amount that temperatures rise or fall in response to alterations in climate.Since 1990, official estimates of climate sensitivity have ranged between 2.7–8.1 degrees F (1.5–4.5 degrees C).
