Council for Basic Education

Définition

  • A group of citizens from various professions—journalists, scholars, and scientists among them—founded the Council for Basic Education (CBE) as a nonprofit organization on July 3, 1956, in Washington, D.C. The Council began at a time when the changes taking place in the school curriculum were greatly influenced by initiatives, such as various forms of the life adjustment concept, which CBE deemed as harmful and inconsistent with its view of a sound education. Indeed, the Council both touted reform and expressed dissent in the field of education. [Source: Encyclopedia of Educational Reform and Dissent; Council for Basic Education]
