- The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) was created by a European Parliament and Council Regulation and adopted in January 2002. The regulation established the basic principles and requirements of food law and stipulated that EFSA would be an independent source of scientific advice, information, and risk communication in the area of food and food safety issues.
