- Extensive sociological research shows that gendered assumptions, stereotypes, and practices permeate organizations and, as a consequence, shape and reflect their members’ experiences. Despite improvements since the 1970s, sex segregation persists, with the results that U.S. men and women still rarely hold identical jobs in a common physical location.
