  • Robbery has historically been deemed one of the basic common law felonies, punishable by death. The common law elements of robbery are (1) a person taking another's personal property of value, (2) from the person's possession or presence, (3) by force or by placing the person in fear, and (4) with the intent to permanently deprive the other person of that property.
