- Samuel Hutchison Beer (1911–2009) was an Eaton professor of the science of government at Harvard University and one of America's most distinguished political scientists, especially renowned for his writings on British politics and American federalism. Beer received his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, graduating with a bachelor of arts in 1932, and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University from 1932 to 1935.
