Definición

  • James K. Polk (1795–1849) was born in North Carolina in 1795, but like his political mentor Andrew Jackson, Polk grew up in the frontier tradition of Tennessee. He entered Tennessee politics in 1819 as clerk of the state senate, and after a brief time in the lower house of the state legislature, he was elected to the U.S. Congress, where he served for fourteen years, the last four as speaker of the House.
