  • IN 1992, THROUGH recognition of a need for more complete local, state, regional, and national cancer incidence data, Congress established the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) by enacting the Cancer Registries Amendment Act (Public Law 102–515). The NPCR registries are managed by state health departments or other entities designated by the state and cover 96 percent of the U.S. [Source: Encyclopedia of Cancer and Society; National Program of Cancer Registries]
