- Hypertension (HTN) in Asian Americans is especially important, because they are the fastest growing racial population in the United States in terms of percentage. Asian Americans are defined as “any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or Indian subcontinent.” From 1990 to 2000, the population of Asian Americans increased by 48 percent (overall U.S. rate was 13 percent).
