- In many ways, contemporary psychodynamic theories can be thought of as theories of relationships. Although Sigmund Freud's original theory was primarily concerned with the “internal world” of the mind, psychodynamic theories have evolved to encompass a more complex understanding of the interplay between interpersonal and intra-psychic experiences.
