health promotion
Definition
- Scholars and researchers have developed numerous definitions of health promotion. Perhaps the most comprehensive and wide-ranging is that of the World Health Organization, which defines health promotion as, “the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health.” This definition is deliberately broad, and requires both conditions and resources for health, including the basic necessities of human life (shelter, food, income), community and government values and resources (stable ecosystem, sustainable resources, social justice, and equality), and national and international resources (peace).
