developmental contextualism

Definition

  • Developmental contextualism is an exemplar of the family of human development theories sharing the paradigmatic assumptions of developmental systems theory (DST). DST, an application of general systems theory to the study of growth and change in living systems, assumes that individual organisms are actively embedded in a dynamic, multilevel contextual milieu evolving in historical time.
