Preferred term

basic income

Definition

  • Basic income is an unconditional and universal cash transfer for all individuals in a society, without considering any kinds of entitlement mechanism or precondition, such as means testing. As a result of this unconditionality principle, basic income transfer does not require the performance of any work, or the obligation to accept a job if one is offered.
