Definition

  • A psychoanalytic term for distorted emotional reactions to present relationships often based on unresolved family situations. Because family relationships are embedded most often in a transference context, the family therapist can enter the ongoing transference relationship system, rather than have to recreate it in the privacy of an exclusive therapist-patient work relationship.
