  • Nuclear receptors that bind OXYSTEROLS and function as heterodimers with RETINOID X RECEPTORS. They have important functions in regulating cholesterol homeostasis, ENERGY METABOLISM; INFLAMMATION; and the immune response. A liver X receptor that is ubiquitously expressed. Loss of LXR-beta function is associated with an increase in the expression of UNCOUPLING PROTEIN 1 as well as OBESITY. A liver X receptor that is expressed primarily by cells in the liver and other metabolically-active tissues.
