Scope note
- Probably from Brussels originally, the d’Anna family were wealthy merchants who settled in Venice at the beginning of the 16th century. Martin [Martino] d’Anna (ca.1475-1556) acquired Venetian citizenship in 1545...The sons of Martin d’Anna, Daniele (d.1579) and Giovanni (d.1580), were also important patrons...Giovanni’s son Paolo (d.1582) is the last member of the family on whom there is any information...The painter Baldassare d’Anna (ca.1572-1646, q.v.) was probably related to this family.
