  • Although it has been shown that synonymy homonymy and polysemy do not contribute as much to retrieval performance degradation as was once thought (Krovetz and Croft 1992; Sanderson 2000) it seems that the techniques once used to address these phenomena now have a new role to play in domains dominated by technical language such as the scientific literature used in the new genomics track (Hersh and Bhupatiraju 2003).   • ROUGE BLEU and METEOR are metrics for evaluating generation quality by measuring ngram overlap precision with brevity penalties and considering synonymy and stemming respectively. (Han, Wang, Wang, Zhang, Huang & Wang, 2024)
  • Some existing work (e.g. Edmonds 1997) showed that second-order co-occurrence leads to better results for detecting synonymy. (Shi, Zhang, Yuan & Wen, 2010)
  • Synonymy and antonymy are without doubt two of the most well-known semantic relations between words and can be broadly defined as words that are 'similar' in meaning (synonyms) and words that are 'opposite' in meaning (antonyms). (Scheible, Schulte im Walde & Springorum, 2013)
