  • Sentence stress is sometimes referred to as 'contrastive stress' giving a word a certain emphasis to make it stand out as a more important part of the utterance. (Halabi & Wald, 2016)

Ejemplo

  • Among them the discourse stress often occurs at the place of an accented syllable but they are relatively more important than the other sentence stresses. (Zou, Hou, Chen, Hu & Fu, 2006)
  • It can be categorized as lexical stress if the stress is placed on syllables within the word or sentence stress if the stress is placed on words within sentences. (Kheir, Ali & Chowdhury, 2023)
  • Spoken language also provides additional means to express contrast e.g. through topicalisation and sentence stress (see Example (7)) that are not easily accessible in the written medium. (Rehbein, Scholman & Demberg, 2016)
